Nate The Hoof Guy

I've been posting more on Ledger & Lace recently than this poor neglected blog. I will have an update-ish sort of post. Sometime. In the meantime, I was recommended Nate The Hoof Guy in my YouTube feed, so I'm sharing it here.

A Litter of Babies

 I saw this news blurb about a woman who gave birth to nine babies. See below:

NINE!  So the last two were unexpected because she thought she was only having seven. Can you imagine the conversation?  

"Well I guess I can do seven. I mean, it's not like I'm the Octomom!  How embarrassing would THAT be?" 

And then the birth comes and the last two babies are all: SURPRISE!  [Jazz Hands!]

The sleep deprivation from one baby . . . but nine?!  Sweet. Baby. Jesus. In. Heaven. 

Apart from that, lemme make this about me for a sec. 

Because she has my name!  

I've only ever heard my name once before on TV and it was when Mum and I were watching the news. A Muslim refuge with her nine children (but not all at once!) was escaping across the border.  "Ooh, Hal!  She has your name!" Mum said, hitting my arm. Thanks, Mum.  She named me after a friend. Altho, these days, she would prolly be accused of Cultural Appropriation.  I think Cultural Appreciation is a better term. 

I've heard it both ways.

Halimah, the name that was never on touristy souvenir key chains or mugs. The name that was stumbled over,  garbled and mispronounced when I was growing up.  The name that was never a character in a movie or book. The name of a quintillion nick names like Amoeba and Ha-LIMA Bean. [Quintillion: it's a math term. Look it up.]  The name that I shortened to "Hali" after getting called Shalimu. Which then became a nick name. The name that gets me "randomly searched" every time I fly.  Every. Single. Time.

Mum's Laugh :-)

 This was our last Christmas with Mum. Rowan was going to be in the Christmas pageant at church. He was playing a shepherd and Atlasta said, "What did he go to Harvard?"  And that's what sparked the laughing. Shepherds always made her laugh. She tells the story of watching a Candid Camera episode that started it all:

The Great American Smokeout

 Loyal readers of this blog know John Morgan, author of Grasshopper Notes and my boss and friend since 2007. Since retiring, he's published Grasshopper Notes Journal, and has most recently started posting all his recordings for FREE on his new YouTube channel,  Inside Out.  These recordings were previously only available at our seminars or for purchase via the seminar website. 

This Thursday, November 19th, is “The Great American Smokeout." In honour of that, he's just posted his Stop Smoking Forever seminar.  Every year in cities all over the country, thousands of people flocked to attend John Morgan seminars. It's why he's known as "America's Best Known Hypnotist" as he criss-crossed the continent to help people stop smoking or lose weight.

The video is the length of a movie, except you close your eyes for part of it and at the end of it, you are on your way to being smoke free. When smokers couldn't get to Kansas City or Nashville or our other seminar cities, they could watch this hour and 45 minute video. They were astonished that a video of his seminar worked! 

2020, amiright?  It has been a year we’ll all remember. A lot of people are home anyway. If you're a smoker, give up the cute cat videos and bread-making tutorials, forget the pandemic and political noise for a bit, and pick a time to watch this video uninterrupted.
