Artie's Birthday

We grew up in my family taking karate with Arthur Drago at the Front Royal Karate Club. Well. I took it for 2 years and dropped out. [insert laughter from Mum] Anyway, it was Artie's 70th birthday May 1st, so here are a few pix from his party.

Card I made for Artie. This is the logo for his school.

Inside of card. Pop-up!

Me, Artie, & Mum. I'm the only non-blackbelt is this trio.
I took several pix of Artie with chiro-sister; most with Artie looking like this:

But I finally got a cute 'n' cuddly one:

Mum's calligraphy is all over the dojo:

This was from one of Artie's students:

SO SWEET!
Chiro-sister comes up to me & says, "You have to go to the bathroom! The SIGN is still there!"

It's been there since we were teenagers! 30+ years.
Birthday Hug from Mama Drago, 93 years young!

Some random pix

This is going to sound so cliche, but I've been lacking in the blog post dept. I've been less inclined to document everything as I've been doing some off-line journaling & art work. Anyway, I've had some lovely days in the labyrinth. Tabby Bobcat comes out to join me--or rather, she weaves thru my legs as I'm walking!

After we had all that rain, look what Fisherman Willie found in his yard!

Similar to my arrowhead, made of milky quartz.
Here's a shot up behind my house:

BEAUTIFUL.

HAPPY B-Day Mel!!!

Today is the birthday of friend-of-the-fam & Crossword Wiz, Melody.
Here's a shot of the birthday cake that Mum made with its nuclear coloured garden & gargantuan sun.

Thanks for sending the pic, Mel!  Mum did the writing & the sun.  I did the flowers, but wasn't trusted to do the 3 lines together--also known as "grass."

And here is a shot of this morning's sunrise:

HAPPY B-Day, Mel!  May today be full of sunshine & good cheer.  And of course, MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY!!!

Funny

Chiro-sister & I got matching shirts:

I always loved Bert 'n' Ernie on Sesame Street!
This is the back of the shirt. Apparently, they're more than just room mates. Who knew?
Here are some shorts with an identity crisis:

Am I hippie-tie-dyed? But I'm black. Am I Goth? But I'm patch work madris. Am I preppy? Who am I?

Mother's Day

Chiro-sister got Mum a T-shirt; very appropriate of a stick figure pumping iron. Like Mum.

Here's the card she sent Mum:

Mum's collection of Mother's Day cards.
I've been playing with pop-up cards, so here's the one I did for Mum:

Back in the '80's, we used to wear men's paisley pajamas accessorized with rosaries & bangles. My mother said, "I hope you don't tell people who you ARE when you go out in public like that." So I went out to the front porch & shouted, "Hey, everyone! I'm Anne Holliday's daughter!" So it's sort of a family joke. "BNO" is short for "Blessing Number One." You'll note that chiro-sister signed hers "BN2" for "Blessing Number 2." Brother Atlasta is BN3, & so-on.

The flowers are the pop-up part. I used decorative damask scrapbook paper for the background, & a picture of flowers on top of a cake from O Magazine.

M&M Monday

It's been exceptionally green this spring, and very cool. The girls are happy to hang out outside and aren't in a hurry to rush back into the house. Well--not that they're in a hurry to do anything! But they venture out further than a few feet from the ramp, at least.

Morning light. The girls come back from their stroll.

Millie:  *sniff*

Maggie: Tum de dum . . .
aaaaaaand . . .

plopped down.  *sniff*
That's been our rather uneventful week. Very ordinary!

M&M Monday

Millie, Preventer of Sleep

Here she is, spilling off her bed . . .

The problem comes when she finds the ONE tiny spot of bare floor to get stuck on:

So I move the furniture out of the way:

And I maneuvered a dog bed under her and scooted her back onto the carpet. She followed me into the kitchen while I was doing dishes, and lay down.  *sigh*  She wouldn't get back up and when I went and sat down in the living room, she started barking. So I got the rug from the laundry room and scooted it under her. The rug is staying in the kitchen so that if she wants to join me for dish washing or cooking, she can. She has just this week started barking for no apparent reason if she's alone. Well, that's why she's barking, I guess! So last night I went to bed & Maggie followed. Millie stayed in the living room and  . . .  BARKED. She wouldn't come to the bedroom, she wouldn't budge. So I ended up sleeping on the sofa. She lay next to me on her dog bed and I Reikied her. I hope I can sleep in my bed tonight!
