To the Artists

My friend Betsy forwarded me Eric Rhoads newsletter, Coffee with Eric and his blog post, Doing Your Soul Work.  I just LOVED this quote!
Bird graphic from The Graphics Fairy.

I'm reminded of the story of John Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls telling the story of writing Name.  They were a punk band, traveling around in a van and he was approaching 30 and thinking about getting a "real job," and maybe going back to college. Or plumbing school, because apparently he's really good at plumbing, which back in the 80's would not have wowed me, but now I just think, "Oooooh, bathroom remodel!"  :-)  But I squirreled. Anyway, he was having that what-should-I-do-with-my-life? conundrum and sat down on the sofa, and wrote Name, which was their first song on the radio and the rest is rock-n-roll history.

Here's a clip of him telling the story, but this video is too adorable not to show:

And how could we not include Seth Godin on a conversation about art?  :-)

Day of Rest: A Few Pix

Friday morning's sunrise.

Know what this is? A turkey. Yes, a turkey!

On my way out on top of the mountain. This always makes me think of Dave Dobson; pine trees.  :-)

This little guy hit the window and then kept trying to get in. He finally flew off. I did not Reiki him. OK, I did.

My avocado trees LOVE being outside on the back porch! Lots of leaf growth.

This morning's indigo bunting. He was making a racket with his chit-chitting. It sounds like a cross between a cardinal and a hummingbird. Anyway, he was flying back and forth & I thought he was chitting at me.

Hullo.

And then I saw Tabby Bobcat skulking from behind the car.

Once she moved near the wood shed, he flew to a tree and was quiet. er.

Then whatever caught her fancy, stopped being fancy and she went to sharpen her claws. This is one of the characteristics of a Pixie-Bob; they like to scratch wood.

Hullo.

Baby Bluebird of Happiness

Yesterday I was sitting at the kitchen table, when FWAP! A bird hit the window. I went outside and there the little guy was, gasping on the ground. I picked it up and held it in my hands. It was stunned, but nothing was broken. So I just kept Reiking it, and he started to perk up. So I got the camera to take a few pix:

Stretching his wing. See? Not broken.

Such delicate little feet!

I put him down because I thought he might be ready to fly:

Oh, he flew all right.
But eventually, he flew off:

Preparing for take off.
I know Mum will prolly correct me and tell me this is not technically a blue bird, it's a such-and-such. Well, looks blue to me!  ;-)

UPDATE: I found out what kind of bird this is! And by "I," I mean extensive research done by Crossword Wiz Mel. It's an indigo bunting. And then!  After all that wondering what kind of exotic bird it could be, in a casual convo with Fisherman Willie, he says, "Hey, have you noticed we have a few indigo buntings around?"

*sigh*
