John & Mel

Work Is for People Who Don't Fish

Crossword Wiz Mel & husband John came for a vizzie last week. GORGEOUS day! I came down to the river to find John & Mel, and . . . 3 other trucks, one with a 4-wheeler on a trailer. 5 random guys, one stacking up cases of beer, another wielding a chain saw and sawing up a fallen tree. The NOISE!  Who are these people???  Having Mel & John there gave me a bit of confidence so I marched over to the guys & said, "Who are you and what are you doing here?" They claimed to be friends of the owner. When pressed, friends-of-a-friend of the owner. Turns out they thought they were on Neighbor Chuck's lot which is just before the gate, next to mine.  I called Chuck & had him talk to one of the guys. Next thing they're doing is packing up. "We're real sorry, ma'am. I guess we'll put out the far and move on over to Chuck's."

Fire?!

Yup, with a grill over it ready for some campfire fixin's. So they packed up and moved. About 3 a.m. the following morning, the sky ripped open and pelted my roof with golf balls. When I went down to the river the next morning, the guys had left. I imagine hail hitting a tent is a bummer. They told Mel & John I was a "city girl." Hahahahaha

But back to Mel & John & a few pix:

One of a gazillion perch, bass, & whatnots.

Hi Mel!

Another one!

It was a busy canoe day. This was funny. Look closely at the canoers.

This is the life!  :-)
What a delightful way to spend the day! Thanks John & Mel for making the trek all the way out here! :-)

A Morning Walk to the River

This was a coupla weeks ago, when we'd had a bit of rain. You can see the river is almost to the road:

Love these photos--they captured that glorious golden light!

Another flood shot.

Love the moss! It's the one green thing in the winter.

Neighbor Dave & Carol's river lot. Again, you can see the water spilling past the trees.

Trees in the winter are like beautiful sculptures. I love all the seasons!

Just past the postboxes; gorgeous view of the road heading out.

Back up toward the driveway. See the river spilling thru all the leaves?

And back up the hill to my little house:

View thru the apple tree branches, just getting ready to bud.

View of front yard from front porch. HEAVEN. :-)

Leaving wilderness to see U2 tonight. YAY, meeeeeeeee!

Wednesday Walk

Down by the river . . . a foggy walk . . .

This is my picnic pavillion. It's rather wasted on me, I don't really use it, but it has quite the set up: 2 fridges; one for beer, one for fish. Cooking pots, a grill, wired for phone--all the modern conveniences. There's even a sink with a line to the river. And an outhouse. Eeewww.

Spiderweb hammock. :-)

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Saturday, October 25, 2008

I have successfully failed to upload this a.m. It's been raining v. hard & the satellite rebels against all that drippy wetness. Here's a shot of the river from a coupla days ago:

This is Neighbor Dave's lot next to Fisherman Willie's.

See the postbox on the far left with the duct tape? Guess who's. A branch fell on it and Neighbor Dave asked me if I wanted to replace it. I said duct tape would fix it. Really? he asked. Yes, because it's funnier. When I went down to check my post, he had repaired it. My dad used to say that if there were a nuclear war, the things that would survive would be cockroaches & marachino cherries. And now we can add my postbox.

So I joined Facebook. And I'm still figuring stuff out. A message on my wall? What? A note to my Facebook friends (all 3 of you): Thanks for your patience. ;-)
