M&M Monday

In the Office

Millie is so cute, nuzzling under the bed.

Hullo.

Zzzzzzz . . . .
Out in the Living Room

I'm in the midst of packing & Millie rests her head on a stack of boxes.

Back in the Office
Heads together.

Then Maggie woke up.

Vizzie from Neighbor Dave, Maggie says Hello.

And then goes under the porch.  Note the eye dots.  :-)

Outside the Office
I head out to the LR, so Millie comes out & then PARKS herself across the hall so that Maggie can't get by.

Silly girl.  Hullo.

M&M Monday

Hangin' in the LR

Here's Millie draped across the box top propper-upper for her food bowl.
Millie gazing out the window.  What is she looking at?

Neighbor Dave on the tractor.

Meanwhile, Maggie watches Tabby Bobcat at the watering bowl. Maggie has a love-hate relationship with her. "We don't like cats." She's a cat tolerator.
Millie dozing . . . .

Maggie sidles up & sits between Millie & her food bowl, feigning innocence.

Huh?

Grrrr . . . .

"Hmph! Do you see what she does?" Millie's thinking.

But then . . . Zzzzzz . . . .

Slurp-slurp. When Maggie had her vertigo, I gave her water in this little bowl & so now she still gets it. I have to keep it filled because she won't go to the big bowl.  I can hear someone saying, "She would if she were thirsty enough!"

I feed her on a paper plate because she doesn't like the noise of the metal bowl. So here we go . . .

Grrrr . . . Millie is snoozing away, & Maggie's starting the Grr-Game.
 But then:

Zzzzzz . . . .

More Snow Pix from Monday

Not too shabby for a sunrise.

Walked down to postbox. I put a box of truffles & Xmas card for our postal gal, Candy. Anyone who travels down our road everyday deserves some sweetness at the end of the road!

Duct tape. Is there anything it can't do?

View on the way out, past the postboxes.

On the way back up my driveway:

Neighbor Dave!

Snow remover & pothole preventor. THANKS, Dave!

Woodstove Move

In with the new . . .

Out with the old . . .

I had no idea HOW we were going to do it, but we managed to switch out my woodstove with one that I can operate. And by "we," I mean Neighbor Dave & Fisherman Willie.

The "I'm-so-fancy-with-my-catalytic-converter" woodstove was too complicated. It was nice if I could get it lit. If. Really, it's not because I'm blonde. Not even Pioneer Sister could do it. It was designed for someone who likes to tinker with machines & whatnot. That's not me. I'm a non-tinkerer. So now I have an easy stove. I put the wood in with the kindling, and poof! You have fire!

THANKS to Neighbor Dave & Willie for all your help. The girls & I appreciate being nice and toasty by the fire.

Fire??? Kidding.

Furnace

It was so nice to visit Richmond this past weekend because it's still autumn there. We're definitely heading into winter here; no leaves on the trees even tho we've had a spell of warmish weather. My house has oil heat along with the wood stove that Stephen Hawking needs to explain to me. Or Neighbor Dave. Just when I think I've mastered it, I haven't. But at least I have a full tank of oil. Except.

I can't stand the smell of petroleum products. And when I turned on the heat, it smells. Awful. But this year even moreso. So Neighbor Dave came over to give a looksie. Well. There was a leak, which is why it smelled so bad. So Dave v. kindly took apart the furnace & we cleaned up the leak. Then I turned it on to see if it would leak.

"Is that FIRE?" I said, kinda-sorta surprised.

Neighbor Dave smirks. "What did you think it was? How did you think this works?"

Ummm . . . the truth is that I never thought about it. I just flip the switch. But I guess it does have to burn, right? That's why it's called an oil furnace. And that's what makes the heat. That comes thru the vents. So I don't freeze. Except I have all the windows open to air out the house because it smells like oil. And oranges, because I sprayed the oil filter with Healthfood Store natural air freshener.

I can hear John snorting right about now. This is where he calls me Blondie. I learned that I burn about 1/2 a gal of oil per hour. I have a 250 gal tank, so lessee . . . that would be math. I'll just keep my eye on the gage of the oil tank. THANKS, Dave!

Sycamore Crash

I was walking to my postbox yesterday morning, when I saw this:

Poor tree!

I called Neighbor Dave & he moved it out of the way. This is not the first tree that has crashed down. Of course, if I were Mum, I would have happened upon it in the dark, when it was raining. And I would have whipped out my travel chainsaw to stack it neatly by the road for my winter firewood. ;-)

Saturday, October 25, 2008

I have successfully failed to upload this a.m. It's been raining v. hard & the satellite rebels against all that drippy wetness. Here's a shot of the river from a coupla days ago:

This is Neighbor Dave's lot next to Fisherman Willie's.

See the postbox on the far left with the duct tape? Guess who's. A branch fell on it and Neighbor Dave asked me if I wanted to replace it. I said duct tape would fix it. Really? he asked. Yes, because it's funnier. When I went down to check my post, he had repaired it. My dad used to say that if there were a nuclear war, the things that would survive would be cockroaches & marachino cherries. And now we can add my postbox.

So I joined Facebook. And I'm still figuring stuff out. A message on my wall? What? A note to my Facebook friends (all 3 of you): Thanks for your patience. ;-)
