Get ready to say "Awwww"

So I was having my morning convo with John Morgan, and I looked out at the woodshed and saw this:

See? Awww . . .

So I walked quietly onto the back porch. With John narrating into my headset: "She approaches the baby deer stealthily . . . quietly--what was that noise? The door? You need some WD-40. Is it still there or did the squeaking door scare the deer away?"

SO SWEET.

I said, "Oh, it's so CUTE . . . where is your mother????" Poor thing. I Reikied it and it trotted off down the road. Don't know if it'll be back, but I put some fresh carrots on the compost pile in case it comes back.

THWAP!

Yesterday morning I heard something smack into the bay window in my kitchen. I went outside and looked down from the back porch. A bird lay on the ground, making gasping sounds and sticking out its tongue. Poor little thing; in shock. It was a baby woodpecker. I picked her up and began to Reiki. She calmed down and started to blink slowly like she was falling asleep. I went and sat on the porch with her and continued to Reiki. I did a little birdie effleurage--light stroking. Then I gingerly stretched out a wing. Not broken. The other one, not broken. Birdie physical therapy? Then I began to massage her neck. She liked that. She started to perk up.

She jumped out of my hand and onto my chest:

After a bit more time, I walk over to the tree where I often see the other woodpeckers hanging out. She hopped off my hand, and onto the tree.

SO SWEET.

December, already?

I would say that I'm temporally challenged. I lose track of time. It's a characteristic of being left-handed/right-brained. Still. Sometimes I look up at the clock or the calendar & think, "Woah! What year is this?" Hahaha No, I don't. Yes, I do.

Tomorrow I head out to Calif. again. Already! There was so much I was going to DO before I went--oh, the hazards of living in the present moment! I'll prolly blog from out there, altho, not everyday. Just sayin'.

I'll be at the Ellen show on Thurs. (don't know when it's airing yet). And I'm going to be teaching a one-day beginner Reiki class this Sat. in the Burbank area. Email me with REIKI in the subject if you'd like to come . Here's the info:

Reiki LOVE

You will find as you look back upon your life
that the moments when you have really lived
are the moments when you have done things
in the spirit of LOVE. ~William Drummond

I taught a Reiki class yesterday, my first since last year. The above quote is from chiro-sister Ruthie's shirt. I looked over and the first thing I noticed was that it was inside out. And then she explained that it was so the quote would show on her back. I love that! The class was AWESOME! They were all massage therapists and they spoke Bruce Lipton fluently--natch, having been students of Ruthie's! So it was great to have my Bruce references and arm-flailing appreciated. They were also experienced Reiki practitioners and brought their own insights and intuitive hits to the class. I forget how much I LOVE teaching until I do it again! THANKS Ruthie for the invitation and the opportunity. And many THANKS to the class for making it so much FUN!

I am sitting in my brother's v. quiet house. He and SIL arrived Saturday night. Ruthie and I sat at the gate watching the Goo Goo Dolls 4th of July concert on her DVD player while we waited. I made a sign to hold up that said, "Atlasta + Wifey." [Side note here: this is a family joke. In Mum's photo album for us, she wrote: At last! A boy! after me & Ruth. So we call him Atlasta. Hahaha] Just as we finished watching the concert, (It ROCKS!!!) I said we should stand up with the sign and look like we'd been waiting for hours. Just as we stood up, there was SIL walking toward us. Hahaha We got in around 2 a.m.-ish and D & SIL woke up the girls. It was SO SWEET! OK, we're home. Wake up...now go back to sleep. Mum was going to leave first thing Sun. a.m. but D said to look at his photos first. He rigged up a slide show on the TV. I watched the first coupla hours but then had to get ready for my Reiki class. He had 958 photos--AWESOME!!!

A Merrie Heart

A merrie heart maketh glad the day, and there you find your treasure.

I have this on my business cards and on the header of my blog. The story of this comes from an experience with my GSF Kristina a few years ago. She was recovering from bronchitis and asked if I could come over to Reiki her before she had to leave for work. We had about 10 minutes. I started with a tuning fork on an acupuncture point (Lung 1). Then I stood behind her and put a hand on her back and the other on her chest. She was v. tired and congested and her breathing was labored.

What can you do in 10 minutes? 10 minutes of Clock Time is a blip and an eternity all at once when you’re working in the realm of Spirit and healing. It is that place of Presence and Stillness. There is no past or future, but only NOW. We were in her living room completely embraced by God’s healing Light. She breathed a deep sigh. With my hand on her heart, I heard the phrase, “A merrie heart maketh glad the day.” I think there’s a similar quote from the Bible. Anyway, then it was time for her to go to work, feeling much better. We were both completely merrie!

A merrie heart repeated as I was driving down the road. You know those moments of quiet joy and peace? This was one of them. Later, as I was writing my first Healing Labyrinth Path newsletter, and there you’ll find your treasure completed the phrase. It’s kind of like a clue from Spirit. Imagine if everyone had a merrie heart, perhaps the world would be a bit different. Having a merrie heart is allowing God to smile through you. It’s not the concept of human happiness, because that’s so fleeting. It’s also about finding your treasure, your gift from God that you share with the world. What makes you SMILE now? Do that.

This is the smile in my heart: making people feel good. Helping them to relax and take a pause from the stresses of daily life. Whether I’m doing it hypnotically on a CD or in person with a massage, this is the work I was born to do.

Airport Drama-o-rama

Well. I went to the airport to pick up Mum. I got there in plenty of time. Puh-lenty. When I went in, it said on the screen by International Arrivals that the flight was delayed. By 3 hours. So I immediately turned lemons into lemonade and decided it was an opportunity to listen to the WONDERFUL Dave Dobson tapes that John Morgan has lent me. I went to the car and listened to one for a half hour or so (and I'm listening to Dave, so how much time has really gone by??? That will be funny to a coupla Dobsonians reading this). Anyway, so the tape stopped. Hmmm... that's odd. I wonder if I drained the battery. Why, yes, I did. How would you react? Think about it as I tell you what I did next:

I Reikied the battery for about 40 minutes (WTH, I had time to kill).
I chanted the Gayatri mantra (all-purpose Vedic chant). Click here for a v. cute version.
I visualized myself celebrating and saying, "THANK YOU!" because the car started.
Then I muscle-checked when the whole process was complete and turned the ignition... and this part may surprise you...

...or perhaps not. The car did not start. Can you believe that? But just when I had tried to start it, a man was walking by, so I asked him if he had jumper cables. He did. AND his car was right across in front of mine. AND he just happened to be a mechanic. It would be so cool if I could say my car started right then, but alas, no! The cables were too skinny and didn't get enough juice to the battery. Another guy walked by and Mechanic Guy asked him if he had jumper cables. He did. My car started. I celebrated just as I had imagined. THANK YOU!!! :-)

I knew it was all taken care of, I just had the details of *how* a bit fuzzy.

Now some of you, in your smug little Newtonian Clock Universe, will think, "Who Reiki's a car battery?" Really, why didn't I just go look for help in the first place? Well. And this is my clean-little-secret: I Reiki everything. Now you know. Because I live in an Einsteinian Energetic Universe; everything is energy and thoughts & intentions direct that energy. AND it has worked in the past. OK, not with a car battery, but it's worked with my computer and other situations. AND doing Reiki helps me get grounded in stressful situations. Chanting Gayatri makes me feel calm & centered. AND when you feel better, you do better. AND instead of wandering around looking for help, it came to me. I only asked one person. Plus, and you may interpret this as the REAL reason: it was POURING down rain, and I didn't want to get out of the car. Until it stopped. It didn't. And I asked myself, "What can I do sitting in the dark on a rainy night in my car with nothing else to do but wait for the rain to stop?" Pray. Meditate. Reiki. Always a good thing to do, and rushing around as I had for the past 2 days, had not taken time to do that. So, there you have it.

PART 2:
I had an hour to recharge the battery and listen to Dave. (Note to self: Blog post on Dave). Then I went into the airport and waited for Mum. Have you ever seen that movie, Love, Actually? With Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson. I forget what it's about because it's the opening of the movie that I LOVE. They filmed regular people at an airport for 2 weeks meeting friends & family off the plane. It's so BEAUTIFUL to watch. And I got the live version of it as I watched people come out of customs. There were 2 little boys who ran up to their grandfather. Papita! Papita! And happy tears all around. A British gal with her children meeting her sister. Very proper and so sweet. An Indian family greeting their father-brother-uncle. It made my heart *smile* to watch all this as I'm waiting for my own mother.

And then my phone rang. It was Mum. "Where are you?" she said.
"I'm at the airport. Where are you?"
HOME. Her plane was NOT delayed and she had sat in the airport for 3 hours while I sat in the parking lot. She finally got a taxi home. In the rain. With a driver who didn't speak English. D'OH!!! (Note to self: Oh, never mind! Too many notes!) So there you have it.

WELCOME HOME, Mum! Sorry your daughter is such a twit!

Mum on her last B-day.

This is our version of Easy-Lazy Trifle (no one wants to bake in August!) :
Store-bought angel food cake, slice around to make 2 layers. Add Byrd's frozen strawberries to bottom layer (thawed, of course). Put on top layer of cake, add more strawberries to the top. Slather with whipped cream (the REAL stuff, not that spray crap-in-a-can). If you're feeling extra-inspired, you can do the Byrd's custard on top of the strawberries before the whipped cream. The center of the cake just fits a Catholic candle (Mother Mary). :-)
