Shades of Green
This spring has been so extra-glorious-beautiful. It's beautorious! It's gloriful!
Yesterday, I ventured over the mountain thru Fort Valley into Woodstock.
Pioneer Sister & I went to the Fibersmyth shop. All things fiber-and-yarny. They also have a sweet restaurant with so many things I could eat. Usually it's a challenge eating out when you're gluten free. But you could order any sangwich as a salad. With real greens. How cool is that?! Sometimes I'm stuck staring at the menu saying, "Um. I'll have the wilted iceberg lettuce with the anemic-hothouse-tomatoes-prolly-genetically-modified. No dressing, thanks." Bleh. Pioneer Sister and I had a big pot of proper tea. After lunch, we popped into the shop. The owner, British Elizabeth, sat behind her desk clicky-clacking away with knitting needles as we chatted. Can't wait to take Mum!
Ended with tea with Mum & her famous omelets.

Then it was back down the mountain & thru the forest:
Delicious day. :-)

FLOOD
Usually I go for a walk to my post box in the afternoon. Something prompted me to walk down in the morning yesterday . . . we had a tremendous amount of rain last night. It poured. The water was a bit high:
I got to my postbox--jackpot! Birthday cards--YAY, me! A couple hours later, I was tippy-tapping away at the computer, and Millie is staring out the window. Periodically, she gives a woof.

Sometimes she barks at cars or airplanes. Not this time. Yesterday, she was barking at the river. I stood behind her and you could see the movement of the river. Every time a tree or something floated by, she barked. Then Maggie joined her:
The river had risen a bit so I walked down . . .

You can't see them, but in the photo below, across the river, 2 people on a 4-wheeler had gone along side the river down a ways. They just barely made it back; in that 10 minutes, the road had already been covered by water. That's how fast the water was rising.
So I went back to the house. And then! More woofing and I looked out the window and it seemed that there were more trees floating even faster down stream. Was that a refrigerator I just saw? So I walked back down to the river:

River Flood
We had a lot of rain. The river has flooded a bit. It looks rather underwhelming from my front porch:
Oh sure, the river's all brown and whatnot. But it doesn't look too terribly spectacular. Neighbor Dave called yesterday a.m. & said that the river had crested & it looked like it was going down. So I grabbed my camera and ran down to the river. Like it's going to go back to normal in 2 minutes?
So here you go:

This is where Mum got into trouble during the last flood . . .
So here you go:
The last flood, the river reached the mailboxes, but the water was about a foot below. They survived, which doesn't surprise me if Neighbor Dave had anything to do with the construction. Apparently they're set in concrete.

Perspective
This is shot from across my road. From this point on the bridge, it takes 45 minutes to drive to my house. We call the mini-peninsula jutting out, "Overall Beach."

Would you know they were the same place just by the photos? Prolly not.
Things look much clearer from a different perspective. Pulling back to a wider angle helps you to see the road you're heading down. Conversely, walking the road, gives a concrete experience of it. It's all perpective.
Here it is from the other side of the river at a different angle:
Here's another view. You can see my driveway up the hill:
