ICPA Conference: WOW!!!

Me & Bruce.  :-)
Last weekend Chiro-sis Ruth & I went to the ICPA conference. The focus was on children's health and well-being, from prenatal and beyond. I went because Bruce Lipton was presenting. And then I saw who else was going to be there--Gregg Braden, Joe Dispenza AND Bruce Lipton all together on one stage?! Awesome!!!  But there was so much more. Here's a full list of speakers. It was four days, you guys. So I have LOTS of notes & I always get bogged down because I want to include everything. So I will restrain myself with some quotables from speakers, pix & a few stories. Ready? Here we go!

We got there on Thursday afternoon. There were break-out seminars, so we had choices. Ruth went to a chiro-seminar & I went to Karen Brody's Yoga Nidra. Lemme just say: SUCH a great way to start the whole thing! Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that is relaxing and energizing all at the same time. I felt fantastic afterwards and the almost-3-hour drive was a distant memory. Find out more at Bold Tranquility

"Do you want to have good nerve energy or do you want crappy nerve energy?" ~Patty Giuliano

Patty was the first speaker we saw & she was fantastic! Energetic, dynamic and inspirational. She said that an office was about connecting & creating a community. "Make your office better than Starbucks." Love that!

Dr. John Minardi was next. WOW!  Quotable: "The body always heals itself, it just needs a helping hand."  If I were a chiropractor, I'd want to go study with this guy. He was funny and smart and told some great stories. He also made immunology easy to understand. Really!

Jeanne Ohm
Chiropractor Jeanne Ohm, the director of ICPA, was the heart behind the whole conference. All 6 of her children were home births and she had this dedication to chiropractic and children that was palpable. She brought in so many different presenters from so many different fields; chiro, medical, midwifery--so much information from different avenues!  She said, "Life is the union of intelligence and matter." And she quoted Einstein, "The most important decision we will ever make is if we perceive life in a friendly universe or a hostile one." And we know which one she lives in! What a LOVEly woman!
Bruce & Jeanne.

Ms. America Is A Chiropractor?!
Ms. America, Stephanie Mills was there. We missed her talk, but got a chance to chat after the evening session was finished. She complemented Ruth on her "Palmer purple." And then it just got really cute as they talked about different teachers and discovered that they both graduated in the same class. October, 2000. A friend!

This gal walked by & we thought it would be fun for her to photobomb:
Hahahaha
My Elevator Moment
I've been reading Peter Gray's Free to Learn. In fact I was reading bits of it to Ruth in the hotel room. "Listen to this!" We saw him speak and he was going to sign books. I took the opportunity to go back to our room and get a meditation in. I headed back down afterward, and as the elevator doors opened [insert angelic voices here] there stood Peter Gray. Whom I then ambushed. Not really. Well, sort of. Anyway, I said, "I was just coming down to get my book signed. Do you mind if I ride the elevator with you?"  What I left out was "And walk with you through the labyrinth of hallways to stand outside your hotel room and tell you all about Bruce Lipton and also Bob Sapolski's baboons."

He was, of course, extremely gracious and said yes.

Here's Peter Gray's TED Talk which will give you a taste. His work really synchs well with Bruce because there's an emphasis on cooperation and fun. Totally Bruce! I'll do a separate post once I finish his book. SO relevant for today's children, and you know, society in general.

A few quotables:
"In play, you are always fee to fail; free to try new things."
"The most important freedom in play is the freedom to quit."
"You can go through life not knowing how to read, but you can't go through life not knowing how to read people's feelings."

GMO's: Just Say NO!
I almost didn't stay for Jeffrey Smith's presentation because I already avoid GMOs. I know they're bad; they're connected to food allergies, illness, infertility--the list goes on. But I really learned even more about the politics of why they are in our food sources. And saw some graphic research photos of mice with hideous tumors. As I was listening to him, I thought, "He needs to talk to Bruce!" Bruce had emailed me when he was in India a few weeks ago about working to make India organic. Holy cow! So I spoke with him after his talk & asked him if he knew of Bruce Lipton's work in India. It turns out that he was actually in India with Bruce. Awesome! Later I pointed out Jeffrey at lunch to Bruce & said, "Have you met Jeffrey Smith? I think you two would get along."  Haha  Bottom line with the GMO's: just STOP. Put the Doritos down. Eat real food! Check out The Non-GMO Shopping Guide

Bruce Lipton & Joe Dispenza
These guys.
So awesome.
With Ruthie.
Bruce, Joe & Gregg
Gregg, Bruce, Joe.
With MC Peter Kevorkian, Patty's husband. Quotable: "The deep truth inside of you is the YES."

Joe Quotables:
"In an age of information, ignorance is a choice."
"Science is the the contemporary language of mysticism."
"It's not enough to know; people want to know how."
"We should never wait for science to give us permission to do the uncommon."
"My first morning question: What is the greatest ideal of yourself that you can present to the world today? . . . I'm not going to get up until I'm somebody else."

Gregg Quotables:
"Miracles become technology when we understand."
"The belief system of 'dog-eat-dog-world" affects our relationships, finances . . . ."
"We solve our problems based on the way we think of ourselves, our relationships & the world."
"We must stop being afraid because that fear will prevent us from moving into the future."

Bruce Quotables:
"Cancer is a lifestyle consequence."
"Change your perception and you change the function of your cells."
"You control the genes by the way you live your life."
"You're not a victim, you're a MASTER of your biology."
"You get sick not from what you caught but from what you already have." (Re: opportunistic microorganisms).
"Your life matches your beliefs."
"Kids learn without you teaching them." (Re: subconscious programming).
"How can you find love if you can't love yourself?"

Lunch Meet
I happened to sit down next to Dr. Barry Taylor, author of Love Your Body: Your Path to Transformation, Health, & Healing. I missed his presentation, so I was glad I got a chance to meet him. We swapped business cards and he pointed out the Chartres labyrinth on his--because I totally missed it. Ha! He also has a labyrinth in his back yard. A friend! Ruth & I stopped by his table in the exhibit hall and he has a line of protein bars & shakes that are DELICIOUS.

Tea Time
So this has now become a family joke & when I told John Morgan about it, I got a snort-laugh from him & he said, "You have to tell that story." So here goes: I was at a coffee/tea station getting tea and there was a British guy there, too. They had "English Breakfast Tea." I said, "Oooh, English Breakfast Tea. I have some proper PG Tips in my room." And he looks at me and says, "Hm? Oh, right. BUILDERS TEA."  Hahahahaha  When I told Ruth, she launches into her Queen's English & says, "Oh, you Americans. You think you know about tea."  Fast forward to Monday night when I'm at Daniel's / Mum's and he says, "Making a cuppa Builders Tea, I see."  Hahahahaha

Joe Dispenza
What can I say about Joe Dispenza? He's just a fantastic presenter; smart, funny, & LOVEly. He's not one of those newage "you-create-your-reality" kinda guys. He does it. And then he says, "Lemme show you how." Ruth & I both went to his seminar last September. 3 days of neuroscience and meditation. Woo-hoo!  So it was a treat to see him again.

Joe Dispenza: Neurons that FIRE together, WIRE together!
"Be inspired by a vision of the future  instead of a memory of the past."
"After you have everything you want, you start to think how you can contribute to the world."
"A memory without emotional charge is called wisdom."

So midwife Mum may be disappointed not to read more of the baby stuff, like the talk from Jennifer Margulis, author of The Business of Baby: What Doctor's Don't Tell You, Corporations Try to Sell You, And How to Put Childbirth, Your Pregnancy and Baby Before Their Bottom Line.  (Really good stuff, but no pix).  Sunday was the last day, and I missed some of the morning session because I wanted to meditate. And I figured Ruth would take notes. She did, but I don't have them. I came in at the end of  Ina May Gaskin's talk. She showed this video of a mother elephant giving birth & then the baby didn't move. She didn't give up! She nudges the baby and then finally wraps her trunk around the baby's trunk and pulls. As Jeanne Ohm said afterwards, "That was the baby's first chiropractic adjustment." Yeah!

This is the cover I made for my seminar notes journal:

And I'll end where I started, with Bruce Lipton. There were so many wonderful speakers and chiro-sis would get teary during some of the talks. As we were waiting for Bruce, I said, "No worries with Bruce. He won't make you cry!" Ha!  Bruce talks a lot about subconsious programming. He was presenting in Jeruselum in a mixed audience of Arabs & Jews. And he flashes up a picture of children holding machine guns. "YOU are programming your children for war! You can say you want peace. Your children might grow up and say they want peace as adults. But what are you going to do about it NOW?" And then he shows a photo of children holding hands. Awww . . . .

So that's the ICPA conference recap. SO AWESOME!!!  :-)

I Can Do It! Conference in Baltimore: Part 1

This past weekend, Chiro-sis Ruth & I went to Baltimore for the I Can Do It! conference. There were so many WONDERFUL speakers there (Bruce Lipton!), and unlike the last 2 years, it wasn't in a cavernous convention center, but in the gorgeous Hippodrome Theatre. AWESOME!

Before I go into speakers and content, this:
How freaking COOL is this? A HOP SCOTCH?!
You know I had to do it.
Every. Single. Time.
SO FUN!
OK, on to the speakers!  Wayne Dyer kicked off Saturday morning. He started with a little humour:  "I still can't get over that people pay to listen to me talk. My kids can't either." Hahahaha

"Believe it or not, if enough of us shift our consciousness, we can make a huge impact."

In addition to Rumi (LOVE!), he quoted one of my favourites, Viktor Frankl, psychiatrist, holocaust survivor, and author of Man's Search For Meaning. "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves."  Wayne says that we are trained to be limited. "Don't believe in your limitations."

Bill Davis, author of Wheat Belly, joined Wayne on the stage.  Wayne is now gluten-free and officially a Glutard. I say that with the greatest affection. I'm sure that is how my brother (Atlasta) means it when he calls me & Chiro-sis Glutards . . . .

So he ended the morning with daughter Skye singing a BEAUTIFUL rendition of The Greatest Love. And here she is singing (something else equally beautiful, just watch):

Alex Woodard was also there at the conference. Read his first book, For the Sender. I missed his concert, but the last two times I've seen him, I've joined the audience in being a blubbering, boo-hooing mess as he told the story of Kona, his dog that died. Ruth said that this time, he told a story about his horse that left everyone crying. I have one word for Alex:

PUPPIES.

End your talk with puppies! Give your audience a shot of oxcytocin so we can all feel better after boo-hooing about a dog or a horse we don't know. Don't leave us in the valley, take us to another peak.

Aaaaand back to Wayne. So Ruth & I were walking down the street with Bruce behind us, & Wayne Dyer came walking toward us. So I said, "Hey Wayne, Bruce Lipton is behind us." And then I whipped out my camera, of course:

"I caught a fish this big."

With Ruth.
And me.
And then!
Skye came our way, so Ruthie stopped her to say THANK YOU for her BEAUTIFUL singing.

Mike Robbins, author of Nothing Changes Until You Do, spoke next. He told so many great stories. Here are some quotables:

"Two things that will make life better: Be easily impressed and be hard to offend. Most people have that reversed."

"Trust is honestly expecting *A* positive outcome, not *THE* positive outcome."

"The answer's always NO if you don't ask."

He ended on the cheery note; we're all going to die some day. So, you know, don't waste your time on stuff that doesn't matter.

And then!  Bruce Lipton!  Here's a summary on Bruce Lipton 101. He only spoke for an hour, but he is such a dynamic, energetic & funny presenter. So I won't summarize his talk, I'll just show another photo:

Here he is with Danni, Anita Moorjani's husband.
Anita Moorjani is AMAZING. Her story is riveting. She was in Stage 4 lymphoma, in a coma with organ failure, and she healed herself. Here's her story:

Anita quotables:

"Love yourself and value yourself as if your life depends on it; because it does."

"When you love and value yourself, you have heaven on Earth. When you love and value yourself, you realize your purpose: to be YOU."

"Everything we do is out of a fear of consequences or love. Fear is a bad reason to do things. LOVE is the only reason to do anything. Start making decisions out of love."

I'm going to end it with Immaculee`Ilibagiza, who lived in Africa and survived a mass genocide of her tribe by hiding in a bathroom for 3 months. Now, don't think that's a regular bathroom; it was 3 feet by 4 feet and she shared it with 6 other woman and a 7 year old. Ruth and I stood in the entrance of our hotel room and measured it out. WOW. Tiny space for 8 bodies. Now add the smell and the discomfort and the starvation.

Could you do it and not be scarred for life? Lemme tell you something: This woman RADIATED LIGHT. Her heart was open and she had nothing but courage and strength and beauty in her story. Here are a few quotables:

"If we all become more loving, there will be no more wars."

"We all go through something; there is always hope."

"Thoughts can bring poison to our body."

"When the head and heart work together, you create miracles."

She said that she finally understood Jesus on the cross saying, "Forgive them father, for they know not what they do." And that in order to find peace, she had to pray for those trying to kill her. Here is a video clip of Wayne Dyer & Immaculee:

And here are some puppies:

Zzzzzz . . . . Sleeping puppies?!  SO CUTE!

HAPPY Birthday, Bruce!!!

Today we celebrate the celebrating biologist, Dr. Bruce Lipton. He is one of the most joyful people you will ever meet. Here's a summary I wrote a few a years ago called Bruce Lipton 101.

Some favourite quotes:

I woke up one morning and decided to live my life in nothing less than joy.

People are beginning to wake up: [they're saying] "I'm not separate from my community. I am my community!"

Here are some of my favourite photos that I've taken over the years:

Here's the last time I saw Bruce, last November:

I'll leave you with a great summary from Bruce about his work. It's especially relevant now:

Bruce Lipton

This past weekend, Chiro-sis & I went to D.C. to the I Can Do It! conference. We saw Brother Atlasta before we left, and he was all:

We saw a lot of great speakers, but really all I want to do is be all Blah blah blah blah Bruce Lipton!  Of course. So instead of a lot of repetition about Bruce, here are all the posts where I've mentioned Bruce. And I will do a synopsis of the conference after this post.

One of the great things about hearing Bruce speak is that it's never the same lecture. There's always something new, or a different focus from his body of work. But if I give a summary of what he spoke about, this post wouldn't get finished! So instead, I'm just going to post the pictures with a few little tidbits.

I had left a message for Bruce promising Ruth's delicious gluten-free carrot cake. I knew Bruce would go to Gregg Braden's lecture, so I took a box of chocolate truffles and put them in one of Mum's plarn bags to give to wife Margaret (plastic bags that she knits out of shopping bags). "Sustenance for you while you put together your slides for your talk," I said.

Here's a tidbit from Gregg's lecture: a video of an X-Factor Australia audition to "open our hearts." It was like someone unleashed a truckload of chopped onions in the convention center; we were all boo-hooing. In a feeling-oneness-with-the-heart-of-humanity kinda way, of course:

Back to Bruce: Initially we were going to decorate the cake as a cell. "Oh, I know: a de-nucleated cell!" says I. Hahahaha But we didn't have enough colours to do it. Since Bruce was there for Gregg's talk, Ruth came up with this:
In case you didn't watch the video above, the song featured was John Lennon's Imagine.
After Bruce's lecture we stayed and waited for him to sign books. "Oh, good," he said, as we walked to the book-signing area. I look at a line of about 100 people (I think. I'm not that great with crowd math). "Not that many people," he says. I've seen lines of people winding out the door, so comparatively speaking, it really wasn't that many! And Bruce doesn't just sign books, he very generously takes pictures with people and chats. So an hour-ish later, we head over to our room and Bruce gets his first percussor session:

And then we just talked. And I started taking notes. And I wanted to video tape, but he'd say, "Oh, this will be real quick." And then we got a lesson on cholesterol (NOT evil; it shows up after the cells are damaged & marks them). We also talked about:
Earth Guardians
Uplift Festival
Organic India
Thrive

All fascinating & could be separate blog posts, but I promised tidbits. And I have to mention that one of the things that sticks out is what he said about tonsils. Tonsils? you may ask. Yes.

You know how babies put everything in their mouths? There's a biological reason for that. Their tonsils are cataloging and recording information about all the microbes they come into contact with & inoculates them. He quoted Dr. Dan Murphy's Hygiene Hypothesis; that the environment is too clean, and is setting children up for allergies.

He also said that there were 3 sets of tonsils, which I didn't write down, so all I remember now is throat and appendix. What's fascinating about the appendix is that it is the storehouse for the beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract. So if more is needed, it gets sent out to multiply. So...NOT useless as modern medicine asserts.

And then we looked at the clock. We'd been talking and not eating cake for almost 3 hours.

Bruce & me.
With Ruthie.
So we ate cake. Side note here: when we checked in, I had to sign something promising not to have a party of more than 4 people and we couldn't have cake. How did they know? Apparently they'd had a problem with rowdy parties and cake getting ground into the carpet. We were not rowdy and the cake went into our mouths.

Ruth got him to sign her copy of The Honeymoon Effect, his latest book. I had my copy of Biology of Belief that he had signed before, so I asked him to sign again. Because, why not?
First signing from 2005. :-) I have a beautiful mind? Aw, thanks, Bruce!
So it was an AWESOME weekend, and our vizzie with Bruce was icing on the GF cake! On the way back home, we stopped at this rest stop:

Love and growth. :-)  Great way to end our weekend!

P.S. This is not related to anything, but this was a picture in our hotel room that I took for Mum. She has a calendar of similar travel artwork that she grew up with, so I thought she'd appreciate this. LOVE you, Mum!
