I'm not a gardener. Yet. But I like the idea of gardening. And I like plants. So there's that. Here's a few I saw at Pioneer Sister's work:

Shades of Green
This spring has been so extra-glorious-beautiful. It's beautorious! It's gloriful!
Yesterday, I ventured over the mountain thru Fort Valley into Woodstock.
Pioneer Sister & I went to the Fibersmyth shop. All things fiber-and-yarny. They also have a sweet restaurant with so many things I could eat. Usually it's a challenge eating out when you're gluten free. But you could order any sangwich as a salad. With real greens. How cool is that?! Sometimes I'm stuck staring at the menu saying, "Um. I'll have the wilted iceberg lettuce with the anemic-hothouse-tomatoes-prolly-genetically-modified. No dressing, thanks." Bleh. Pioneer Sister and I had a big pot of proper tea. After lunch, we popped into the shop. The owner, British Elizabeth, sat behind her desk clicky-clacking away with knitting needles as we chatted. Can't wait to take Mum!
Ended with tea with Mum & her famous omelets.

M&M Monday: Porch Time
We've had some perfect laundry-on-the-line days! The girls love-love-love being outside. Maggie likes to plant herself:
I leave the door open and Millie likes to hang on the back porch:
When I know they're going to spend some time on the porch, I take their beds out for them.
But you know the saying; you can put a bed on the porch, but you can't make a dog lie on it.
Maggie, on the other hand, is pretty much is at my feet or ON them wherever I am. She waits for me to settle in wherever, and then she's right there. SO SWEET. :-)

Just for a giggle
This may be a bit racy for the blog, and sexist, too. But I thought it was funny.
HAPPY Saturday! :-)
It takes 7 seconds for food to pass from mouth to stomach. A human hair can hold 3 kg. The length of the penis is three times the length of the thumb. The femur is as hard as concrete. A woman's heart beats faster than a man's. Women blink twice as much as men. We use 300 muscles just to keep our balance when we stand. The woman has read this entire text. The man is still looking at his thumb.
HAPPY Saturday! :-)

Goo Goo Dolls Report
You may recall from Tuesday's post that I was headed to the Goo Goo Dolls concert with chiro-sister & friend Tereasa. As Tereasa & I were walking to the theatre, the tour bus was parked there. I said, "Quick, Tereasa! Go pretend you're going in & I'll snap your picture!" But she wouldn't. So I did:
Tereasa managed to be one of 15 picked for the GGD meet 'n' greet. AWESOME! And perfect for her 40th b-day. She took a little gift bag with good-for-you chocolate & I gave her some Virtual Massage CD's to give them. All right, let's get comfortable . . . .
On the way to the concert, Tereasa was telling me about the annoying couple at 2 of the other GGD concerts she's been to. "This HUGE guy was right in front & I couldn't see, etc. etc." Well. Guess who was there? HUGE Guy right in front who would periodically leave & come back with more drinks for his drunken tribe. There was this cute little group of girls near him & when he left they would shift over. All 6 of them.
All a part of the concert experience; I'm still amazed that I escaped without a beer bath! This is one of several photos where I took a photo and HUGE Guy's arm would block my shot. There's Johnny's guitar poking out at the mid-region of HUGE Guy's flabby tricep.
I'll leave you with a few shots of Johnny: (You're welcome)
UPDATE: Someone else got the Happy Birthday Tereasa Moment! Click HERE. YAY!!! "You know whose birthday it is? Yours." Hahahahaha
This was the best of 2 tries with my camera. 1988 Hali would have been on the bus. 2010 Hali took a nap, ate some DSF, and drank 3 cups of PG Tips to stay awake for the concert!

The opening band was apparently a v. popular boy-band. Before the concert I was reading the band name on the drum kit. Rocket Swimmer? Is that a euphemism for something? But no, I was misreading it. They were called Rocket Summer.
Oh.
Is that a euphemism for something?
Anyway, they were very cute & the lead singer reminded me of Bono in his early days. No white flag to march around, but he was very hands-on with the audience & there were a few people singing along to the songs. They were prolly thinking, "Yeah! We're going to see Rocket Summer but they're opening for some band. I dunno--the Goo Goo Something-or-other." ;-) And then!
The GGD took the stage.
Chiro-sister & I wore our Tereasa B-day T-shirts. At the start of the concert, I pointed to my T-shirt & Johnny squinted & read: "Happy Birthday Tereasa." This was the moment to have my video running--but no! I missed it! I did get the rest of what he said, which was: "You know who else's birthday it is today? That's right, Hitler."
*sigh*
The whole night people were telling me & chiro-sister, "Happy birthday, Tereasa." Hahahahaha After the third one, I stopped explaining that I wasn't Tereasa. ;-)
They played all my favourite songs and-and-and! It was just an AWESOME concert. Worth the drunk people and the sticky floor and all of it.

Goo Goo Gal
This is the T-shirt I made that Chiro-sister & I are wearing in honour of our friend Tereasa's 4oth birthday:
For those who don't know, that's a picture of the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls. Tereasa's a huge fan & we're all going to the Richmond concert tonight. YAY, us! Back tomorrow with pics & concert report.
P.S. If you're reading this Johnny Rzeznik, please sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Tereasa! :-)

M & M Monday
It's been quite the week for Maggie & Millie! They had a visit with Fisherman Willie:
Yesterday, I was in the basement doing laundry. Millie was on the back porch & started barking. Then Maggie joined in. I thought maybe someone was coming up the drive, but I got upstairs just in time to see Willie driving down to the river on his Gator. They've gotten to know the sound of it! They do the same thing when Neighbor Dave goes by on his tractor. Willie stopped by on his way back & the girls were at the door wagging away.
Friday night I had a sleep-over with Mum & Pioneer Sister's kids. I was a bit nervous about their visit because they had turned into frothing beasts when they first saw the kids at Mystic Pet Resort a few months ago. So I put them in my bedroom when Mum brought the kids. There they stayed until Maggie managed to sneak out! By Saturday morning, she was hanging out in the living room with the kids. The guest room was all prepared, but of course, they slept on the sofas; the youngest slept on one of the dog beds!
Millie stayed in my bedroom doorway for much of the day. She wasn't a fan of all the activity and noise.
The weather has been springy & these girls are definitely outdoorsy! They are happy to settle in to the dirt or wherever.

John 4:16
You may think the title John 4:16 is a biblical reference. It is not. Today is John Morgan's birthday. He is the author of Grasshopper Notes, America's Best Known Hypnotist, and my boss & friend.
He has a way of taking something mundane & ordinary, and making it special. How often do you look at the time? Is it just the time, or is it connected to someone special? "Ooooh, 9:28, make a wish," he says for his son's birthday. It's a way of celebrating someone in your life twice a day; depending on your bedtime. I'm not generally awake for people born in November-May. ;-) So in honour of 4:16 . . .
May today be a day
of sweet surprises
and a box full of
birthday wishes!

Redbuds along the road
I love driving down my road--not so much in the winter or when there are canoe buses barreling down, but on a springy day, how BEAUTIFUL is this?!
At night, the peepers sing. They were so loud, I heard them thru closed windows while I was rockin' out to the Goo Goo Dolls. That's how LOUD they are! AWESOME. :-)

Mum post
Mum told me she has something BIG in the crawlspace under her house. It chewed a hole through the access door outside. She closed the door and blocked it with a brick but the Creature moved it. She said it was scratching against the plumbing panel in the hallway. So she has blocked it from coming in!
I was there on Saturday & it was running under the house. We've narrowed it down to groundhog, opossum, or raccoon. Whatever it is, it sounds BIG!
We spent the afternoon together and then I got back home on Saturday night. I downloaded my pix onto her computer & sent them to myself so that I could do some blogposts. I managed to escape before she printed out the Washington Post crossword puzzle.
I called her when I got home, an hour-ish later. I may have mentioned Crossword Hell with Mum before. Just for the record, I'm not a fan. Crosswords require an auditory skill that I don't possess. But every once in a while Mum asks me a question & I know the answer. And then begins the badger-festival-of-words. So now I have a rule: only one question.
Mum: You'll know this; it's a Seinfeld question.
Me: OK, I prolly do.
Mum: What does Jerry say when he's angry?
Me: Newman!
She begins sweetly enough, but then here it comes:
Mum: NO! It's 6 letters and it goes blank-blank-blank-H-blank-blank.
Me: Well . . . I dunno, then. That's what he says. And isn't "Newman" 6 letters?
Mum: Well, it cahn't be "Newman" because "Newman" doesn't have an "H." He must say something else because the "H" is for "Humid" because it's a 5-letter word that means "hot and damp."
Me:
Mum: Wait a minute. Unless the other word is "Muggy." In which case, that works. All right, it's "Newman."
*sigh*

DOC
Was at an old farmhouse with Brother D when I spotted this tombstone:
How sweet is this? Doc the dog was only 10. I wonder what kind of dog he was. Working farm dog or little spoiled lapdog? I googled popular dog breeds in 1010 & found this. Whatever he was, he was well-loved. And it had to be a he given that "Doc" would have been a male name at that time. It kind of struck me; the dog has been dead for almost 90 years & its owner prolly is dead, too. And yet there's a sense of a kinship--a fellow animal lover. Stretching across time and the ethers. Rest in peace, Doc & Doc's owner.

M&M Monday
I've mentioned that Millie is very sniffy, right? She and Maggie were scoping something out under the car. I was on the porch drinking my tea, and here's Millie covered in river road dust!
But she lost interest & finally came up the ramp. Millie stayed a while longer. It was prolly a mouse or something furry-ish.
