Gluten Free Goodness

I told Mum to hold it out like fishermen do when
they have their picture taken with a fish. Look
at those HUGE loaves!

I used to have tea and toast every morning for breakfast. I would eat half a loaf in a sitting, that's how much I loved it. And then I had to go gluten free, and that killed the whole bread thing. It's been over 2 years since I had real bread. During that time I have eaten sawdust, gritty cardboard, or chewy mush. All these things claimed to be GF "bread." Even the ones that are edible, just aren't like real bread. I put up with it because it's GF & it's better than nothing. Except when it's not. So then I just don't eat sandwiches & other normal bready things.

Composer Brother gave me a subscription to Living Without, an awesome magazine for people with food allergies. This weekend, Mum gave a try with one of the bread recipes. I had a REAL sandwich! The texture, the taste--it's like real bread. Here's the recipe to Champion Sandwich Bread. Thanks to Diane Kittle for bringing back toast & sandwiches, and thanks to Mum for GF baking! :-)

Skymont Hike

Jerry Caplin, an old theatre friend from my Wayside daze, used to introduce me as, "This is Halimah. She used to live in a dome." There were a total of 4 domes: 2 large ones, & 2 smaller ones. We lived in one of the larger ones, and then Daniel & Ruth each had a separate dome.

Sunday a.m., what started off as a dog walk down the road, ended in a hike around our old stomping grounds. Down past Hangman's Tree--well-pruned, but HUGE!

Down the hill from where we used to live, this is what's left of Daniel's dome, the upper part:

Here's the road up to our house; more of a trail now:

We followed a new road up the hill toward the domes, and it ended here:

Ruth's dome, the only one left, in it's original place. Now attached to a trailer.

As we were standing there on this quiet, early Sunday a.m., my phone rang. Yikes! So then we walked down a bit and followed a trail up. It was the old road that led down to the A-Frame House. And, this is the little hill that led up to our house. I can't remember who hit whom in the lip with the clip board--Atlasta or chiro-sister, but this is the scene of the crime.

Another view of Ruth's dome:

And then we headed back down . . .

Quite the trip down memory lane. Lots of 'member whens? :-)

Front Royal Air Show

Saturday was a perfect English-weather day for an airshow. Thanks to the kind generosity of Joseph from AIM, where chiro-sister Ruth teaches anatomy & physiology, we were able to offer seated massage. THANKS, Joseph!

As you feel my hands on your shoulders, and listen to the ROAR of airplane engines, you can being to relax . . . .

The crowd awaits The Flying Circus.

We kind of missed the air show part of the air show, as we were massaging thru most of it. This was a pic I snapped of an airplane as it landed.

And then. THEN! We saw Mum's next adventure:

Ruth & I groaned as we heard Mum's enthusiastic oohs & aahhs. Here we go. The next thing will be Mum calling from the plane, "Hi dahling. I'm about to take my first jump out of an airplane. What are you doing today?" Hahahaha It was a fun day. :-)

Getting ready for a big day tomorrow

It's been a v. busy day. I've been getting ready for the Front Royal Air Show tomorrow. I found out about it on Sunday at church-in-the-woods & decided to get a booth. Chiro-sister & I are doing seated massage, as well as selling her glass pendants, & my CD's. I got new packaging for Healing Labyrinth Path--the CD covers look AWESOME!!! National Media Services really came thru. I sent final approval for the CD on Wednesday, and I picked the CD's up this afternoon. How cool is that?

In addition to seated massage, Virtual Massage, & beautiful jewelry, I also made some labyrinth crafty things:

Finger labyrinths on steno pads; great to keep by the phone.

Finger labyrinth rocks. Painted with dimensional paint for the labyrinth part.

So I'll be at the airshow on Saturday & will prolly be tweeting. Will post again on Sunday. Here's wishing Blue Skies to everyone. :-)

End of Summer

We are into my favourite time of year: Autumn. Crisp breeziness through glorious colours. We've had a bit of a drought and my 7 miles of gravel-and-dirt road is mostly dirt. If a truck is ahead of me I have to slow to 15 mph. Ah, but it's so pretty:

It's a dusty Christmas . . . er, shrub!

I would prolly not appreciate it as a hiker along the road, but I accept it as part of the journey out & back. I'm reminded of something John Morgan said to me in a phone convo:

I wish it was the way it isn't.

So it's dusty. It's changing seasons. I can lament or I can accept. One is closed, one is open. One is rigid, one is flexible. One rejects, one accepts. Lamenting prolongs our misery. When we have our focus on what we think should be, we miss what is right in front of us. Worse, we miss the opportunity to shift into a different awareness. Acceptance is the first step to awareness.

This is the part where Mum says I sound more and more like John's Grasshopper Notes. Perhaps. :-) Back tomorrow with some cool labyrinth projects I've been working on. In the meantime, may your day be the way it is.

Eddie Iz STILL Running

Eddie's road.

Eddie Izzard, British comedian, has been running a marathon a day for charity. I've been following him on Twitter. Today is his 38th marathon. 38th!!! WOW. Running is kind of like gardening to me; I like the idea of it. Nevertheless, inspired by Eddie, I decided if he could run a marathon a day, I could at least give it a go to my postbox. [Pause for laughter. Yeah, you know who you are--Laughing People]. After all, it's a mile round trip. I'm calling it my Postbox Marathon-a-Day. Lessee. I ran last week. Down that hilly part of the road. Yay, me!

Back to Eddie: you can follow him here & get all sorts of wonderful random shots of road signs, & knackered Eddie pix. He posted an oozing toe photo with a plea not to let it be in vain. Mum saw it & said, "That's disgusting--did I show you that picture of peppers?" WHAT? "Seeing his toe just reminded me." You can donate here.
